Lefosse announces addition of Life Sciences & Healthcare practice area with new partner
Rubens Granja and team arrive to broaden the full-service strategy of the firm in synergy with all other practice areas.
Lefosse Advogados are to add Life Sciences & Healthcare to their practice area with the arrival of partner Rubens Granja and a team of five professionals. The expansion follows the full-service and multi-practice strategy of the firm, which now has 20 areas.
The inclusion of Life Sciences & Healthcare is focused on expanding the firm’s business in the highly regulated human and animal health sector. This field covers a large scope of work including health services, pharmaceutical products, medical devices, food and beverage, biodiversity, biotechnology, cosmetics, fertilizers, healthtechs and telehealth.
Rodrigo Junqueira, managing partner of Lefosse Advogados, says: “The healthcare sector has important legal challenges in the near future and, at the same time, a high investment volume, which opens up opportunities for highly interdisciplinary work, involving our practices dedicated to M&A, intellectual property, compliance, litigation, among others. For this reason, our start in Life Sciences & Healthcare expands the consulting capacity and entrepreneurship of Lefosse, with the offer of full, customized solutions to our clients”.
Granja obtained his LL.B. from Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and his post-graduation in Civil Liability from Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV). He studied for his LLM course in Law, Science and Technology at Stanford University, and then went on to take a Master’s degree and PhD in Civil Law at USP.
With 18 years’ experience in the legal market, the new partner has worked for three other Brazilian law firms and for Moses&Singer in the United States. He is recognized by the leading international rankings, including Chambers Latin America (Life Sciences, Band 2), The Legal 500 (Life Sciences), IFLT 1000 (Corporate and M&A).
“Life Sciences & Healthcare practice is focused on a segment with high growth potential, full of regulatory challenges. New products are launched in the market each day: it is the case of genetic therapies, customized medical devices, telehealth services, high-tech pesticides, among others. I am quite excited to join Lefosse and add my expertise to that of the team and together, offer our clients creative and innovative solutions that the market looks for”, says Granja.
The team led by Granja includes counsel Natássia Misae Ueno, lawyers Júlia de Castro Kesselring, Bruno Fontes Muniz, Luís Felipe de Carvalho Gozalo, and intern Brenda Costacurta Ohnuki.
With the arrival of Granja’s team, Lefosse now has 47 partners and a legal staff of more than 340 professionals, totaling 570 people including the administration area (Business Services).
Lefosse is recognized as a high relevance firm in Brazil by the main legal ranking. The firm has expanded the number of partners in recent years and invested in areas such as Indirect Taxes and Customs Law, Insurance and Reinsurance, Litigation and Arbitration, Real Estate, Restructuring and Insolvency, Energy and Infrastructure.
