Lefosse introduces a new partner and strengthens its Life Sciences and Healthcare practice

Lefosse, one of Brazil’s leading full-service law firms, introduces Maira Materagia Imperatriz as its new Life Sciences and Healthcare partner. Her arrival marks the expansion of the area, which already had Rubens Granja, partner and head of the practice.

Maira specializes in the Healthcare front, with an emphasis on advising health services and health plan operators. She has more than a decade of experience in the sector, working in regulatory consulting, structuring and regulatory approval of corporate and commercial transactions, review of health insurance policies and contracts, administrative proceedings and other matters of corporate interest.

“What motivated me to join Lefosse was, above all, the firm’s positioning in the market, with values that align with my principles and desires. In addition, Lefosse is a firm with an exemplary structure, which allows it to offer clients a complete experience,” says Maira.

“One of the sector’s main challenges is to ensure the sustainability of the health system and implement innovative business models, given the current legal framework, the prospects for regulatory reform and the sector’s macroeconomic scenario. The expectation is to provide clients with unique work, with legal solutions for complex and unprecedented initiatives in the healthcare industry,” she adds.

Maira has a law degree from Mackenzie Presbyterian University, a postgraduate degree in Administrative Law from FGV and an LL.M from Tsinghua University (Beijing, China). She has an extension course in Business and Finance from FGV and is an acting member of the Special Committee on Medical and Health Law of OAB-SP.

Optimistic projections for 2024

The outlook for the year in the health sector is optimistic, with substantial investments in technology expected, regulatory reforms adjusted to the health ecosystem and public policies strategically targeted at the current industry scenario.

“Our performance in strategic and specialized markets will be fundamental to our clients’ success facing the important challenges of 2024. And Maira’s arrival in our team will be essential for our advisory and litigation expansion in the Healthcare front,” says Rodrigo Junqueira, managing partner at Lefosse.

Highly regulated, the health sector encompasses a wide range of activities, such as health services, health plans, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food and beverages, biodiversity and biotechnology, cosmetics, fertilizers, healthtechs, telemedicine, among others.
