Lefosse has a new tax partner to focus on indirect taxes and customs duty

Firm boosts its tax practice in synergy with its other legal services

Lefosse Advogados is delighted to announce that João Paulo Muntada Cavinatto has joined the firm to supplement and reinforce the tax practice mainly in the areas of indirect taxes and customs duty. Our new partner is bringing a team of four with him to broaden our full-service strategy in synergy with the other legal services we offer.

The increase in our tax area is in line with the expansion of our business and services. Our aim is to add technical knowhow and expertise in the regulations governing indirect taxes and customs duties that affect sectors such as retail, industry, energy and telecommunications.

“Cavinatto’s arrival complements and reinforces our capabilities in the tax area, broadening the firm’s advisory capacity and entrepreneurship, and will help us develop closer relations with these sectors and give us an edge on more strategic fronts. This is in line with the Lefosse commitment to offer our clients complete, made-to-measure solutions” said Rodrigo Junqueira, managing partner of Lefosse Advogados.

The new partner is a law graduate from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP), holds a postgraduate degree in tax law from the same university, and has specialized in International Business and Foreign Trade. He has experience in complex M&A transactions, and in business and supply chain structuring and remodeling projects. Cavinatto has been involved in negotiating tax incentives and special regimes at federal, state and municipal level. He has also participated in projects for obtaining and revising various customs regimes and reviewing legislation.

Cavinatto held the position of foreign trade director at PwC for six years and has also worked with two other Brazilian law firms. He is ranked by the main international legal publications, including the International Tax Review, in Indirect Taxes since 2016; The Legal 500 in International Trade and Tariffs; and Leaders League in Tax and Litigation.

“I wanted to join Lefosse because the firm is so well known in the tax area. I was attracted by the challenge of working on their full-service strategy, advising clients from sectors that are expanding in Brazil, such as logistics, fintech, infrastructure, retail, energy, industry and agribusiness”, said the new partner.

With the arrival of Cavinatto, Lefosse now has 46 partners and more than 300 lawyers. Lefosse is recognized by the major publications as a top-ranking firm in Brazil and has increased the numbers of partners in recent years, creating and investing in areas such as Insurance and Reinsurance, Litigation and Arbitration, Real Estate, Restructuring and Insolvency, Energy and Infrastructure.
